John Ridehaugh-RIP-A true Daley.

As reported on Dale fanzine sites and covered by the Daletrust on our social media sites (Instagram, X and Facebook), we were greatly saddened to learn that we had lost a true “Daley” and lifelong Dale fan, John Ridehaugh.

He courageously fought a long battle against cancer, which, sadly, was in the end a battle too far, but his indomitable spirit will, we are sure, live on.

John was a lifelong member of the Daletrust, often providing questions but always providing support, something which we valued and were grateful for.

Though we reflect on the great Daley’s passing, we understand and appreciate that this is not really our time, but a time for Gill and the rest of John’s family to find their own peace and calm in this sad moment. On behalf of all Daleys, we send our deepest condolences.

Though in sadness, we want to share a lovely moment again.

John’s courage and determination were evident only recently, when at our end-of-year awards, John was asked to present the prestigious Daletrust “Player of the Season” award, which fittingly went to Harvey Gilmour.

The Ridehaugh and Harrop families have, for the past couple of years, been the official player sponsor of Harvey Gilmour, who always took the time to sit down with him after games and speak to him.

This was evident at the awards night, when the “Photograph of the Evening” captured a poignant moment for both Harvey and John, as a possible final handshake was made.

RIP John”

After discussions with the club, there will be a minute’s applause starting in the 8th minute of Sunday’s game against Scunthorpe to honor our friend and fellow DALEY.

If all fans, members and friends attending can, please let others know about the tribute and to join then. We are sure it will build a fitting tribute.
