We are thrilled to welcome Wayne Goodison as our guest of honour at the Crown Oil Arena for hospitality prior to the kickoff when Dale meets Tamworth Town on Saturday.
Keith Hicks, the Trust director overseeing the Former Player Association, stated, “I am really pleased that Wayne is joining us for pre-match hospitality in the 1907. He has a wealth of great stories and left a positive impact during his time with us at the Dale.”
Wayne was one of Terry Dolan’s first signings in the summer of 1989, joining from Crewe Alexandra. He played every game at right back, helping Dale secure their first top-half finish since relegation sixteen years earlier. Additionally, the team reached the FA Cup’s fifth round for the first time in its history.
Wayne served as captain for a period, drawing on his experience from his time at Barnsley and Crewe Alexandra. During his tenure at Spotland, he made 78 appearances and scored 4 goals.Afterwards, he had stints in non-league football at Hyde United and Accrington Stanley before moving to Buxton, where he was named Player of the Year. He then transitioned to management, taking on roles at Chorley, Trafford, Salford City, and Nantwich Town.
Wayne currently works as a University Lecturer at UCFB, based at the Etihad, whilst continuing in football, as an assistant manager at Leek Town in the Northern Premier League.
