And so, the odyssey starts, the first of the new visits appears, and it’s the Carabao Cup and a new ground for some and a return for others, Tranmere Rovers at their ground, Prenton Park.
Dale will face Tranmere Rovers away from home in the Carabao Cup Preliminary Round.

A confirmed date and kick-off time, as well as ticketing details for the tie, will be confirmed in due course. The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports+.

We mentioned this before on our website here and explained how it works, and thanks again to Greg and the team for allowing us to “borrow” their wording.

The winner will advance to the Northern section of Round One, the draw for which will take place on Thursday 25th June.

A Preliminary Round is required due to the participation of nine Premier League clubs in European competition next season. This was confirmed following Crystal Palace’s victory in the UEFA Conference League final last week.

Round Three, when Premier League teams competing in Europe enter the Carabao Cup, must comprise 32 teams. This includes the nine clubs in European competition, as well as the 23 winners from Round Two.

70 teams will enter Round One, with 35 advancing. Those clubs will be joined in Round Two by the 11 Premier League clubs not in European competition, with 23 winners proceeding to Round Three.
