Mavis Shellard. RIP. A true dale fan. You will be missed.

It’s with great great sadness that the Trust has to announce the loss of another true stalwart Dale fan and Trust member.

We were informed last week of the passing of long-time DALE fan Mavis Shellard.

From all of us on the trust and on behalf of all fans and those at the club who knew Mavis we pass on our condolences to family members and especially to her great friend, trust member, Michael Whittles.

Mavis was 89 and was first brought to watch the Dale in the very early 1950’s by her father who was a local police officer who worked on Dale Games and brought Mavis along to keep an eye on her!

On a conservative estimate, Mavis was an active Dale supporter for over 70 years, mind-boggling!

She attended nearly all away games often with her friend from Wales and was always taken by her good friend and trust member Michael Whittles who in recent times during her debilitating illness became her full-time carer as well, yet, even through adversity she still up to a few weeks ago attended all our games.

For those wishing to support Mavis on her final journey, we can inform you that her Service and cremation ceremony will be on

Tuesday 10th October at 2.40 at Rochdale Crematorium

We understand that her cortege will pause at the ground at 2 p.m for a few minutes (near the Sandy wonderwall)

The trust will update you on any further information but those wishing to can speak to Michael directly, (he gave us his number for those who wish to contact him yesterday), Mikes number is 01707 373435
