Community News

Programme notes from the Dale Community Trust.

Hi everybody for today’s match against Gillingham-hope you away fans have survived the long trip to Rochdale and enjoy our hospitality but leave the Crown Oil Arena empty handed.

TODAY’S MASCOT-SAM COWLING

HALF TIME ENTERTAINMENT

Today we host Littleborough Juniors and Radcliffe under 8’’s for the popular half time challenge match and hopefully will witness a classic encounter as last season.

I know the kids get unbelievably excited prior to the game and love the reaction from you spectators during the period on the pitch-please support them as normal.

HOMEBASE-SIZZLING SUNDAY

The Community Sports Trust staff with David Bottomley, our Trust Chairman, plus Ray Parry from the Commercial Department were busy recently using their culinary skills to serve up a feast for shoppers visiting the Rochdale Branch.

They also gave out Dale goodies whilst promoting the good work on behalf of the Club for the community of Rochdale.

Many thanks from the management team at the Community Sports Trust for all the hard work during an extremely busy Sunday.

DALES’ SILVER 60’S

Several of our group came down to watch the Dale v Barnsley match recently due to the free ticket offer for everyone turning up to the weekly sessions with Margaret and Diana accompanying us to the Main Lounge to watch Joe Rafferty being presented with the man of the match award.

Sessions are ongoing though out the year at the Club meeting between 1.00-3.00pm at Studds Bar, where on offer is mat bowls, walking football/netball, cards, darts & various other social activities.

Recently, we’ve taken some attenders down to Grandpa Greens for lunch and have booked trips to Blackpool for the Illuminations & Christmas Party.

Everybody is welcome to take part so take advantage of this amazing opportunity to meet other people taking part in gentle exercise.

STONEYFIELD FAMILY DAY

We were on hand providing a football tournament for this popular annual event on 25th August where hundreds of families turned out for a fun-packed day.

Other activities included face painting, henna paint, bouncy castle, circus and and bungee jumps whilst a variety of local stalls could be perused by parents.

Mayor Mohammed Zaman opened the Deeplish Community Centre event welcoming everyone, along with Councillors Janet Emsley and Daalat Ali.

Mohammed Zarafat from Rochdale Youth Service and newly appointed Community Sports Trustee who supported and supervised the event activities said, “It was an interesting fun day with nice weather and it was good to see children and young people participating in positive activities. He further added, Kabadi sport was interesting too and it reflected cultural sport which is popular and rarely people see in Rochdale”

It’s good that we are invited to take part in this yearly event bringing together many community groups round the Deeplish area developing strong links.

I have news in the next programme notes of an exciting new venture funded by the EFL Trust that will see a partnership with our friends at Oldham Athletic working with the many BAME organisations in both Boroughs.

SENSATIONAL SUMMER HOLIDAY COURSES

I most thank the 395 boys and girls who attended our football/multi-sport sessions over the six weeks.

It’s been a joy to see so many children enjoying the quality activities organised by the Community Sports Trust delivered by our DBS checked coaches.

All attenders were invited to Rochdale AFC matches with free tickets donated by the kind gesture from the Board of Directors plus were presented with certificates of attendance & goodie bags.

Also, awards were presented to Most Improved, Star Player, Skills Winner and Personality of the Week in all age groups.

We have already organised the October Half Term holidays courses at Soccer Factory and Wardle Academy commencing Monday 22nd October.
