Trust Week: Review of 2017-18

A look back at some of the stuff that the Trust got up to last season.

July 2017

  • We held our annual Quiz Night at the Flying Horse and took the opportunity to launch our first ever Coaster which we believe to be a first for any Supporters Trust.
  • We launched a Prediction Competition for supporters to make their forecasts on what would happen within the 2017-18 season.

August 2017

  • We followed that with the annual Fans Forum wherein Keith Hill and the Board of Directors took questions from the audience.
  • We invited former Dale midfield hardman Shaun Reid to be our guest when we held the Matchball Sponsorship against Bury back in August.
  • We spoke to the club regarding concerns from supporters over half time entrance to the Dale Bar
  • Steven Davies was voted as our Player of the Month and was given his award by Trust member Ciaran Sherry

September 2017

  • We held our first ever Footgolf tournament as we descended on Springfield Park. It was a rather wet afternoon as the heavens poured it down but it didn’t stop anyone having fun.
  • Jim McNulty was the winner of our Player of the Month and was given his award by Dale Trust member Ian Sturrock

October 2017

  • The Trust supported with a Charity Event for Trust member Emily Bannister that was held at the Dale Bar.
  • We spoke to the club regarding a number of concerns over the closure of the Pearl Street Stand for the FA Cup game with Bromley. This led to further seating being made available for Dale supporters in the Willbutts Lane stand.
  • Ian Henderson was named as our Player of the Month for October and received his award from Ian Wright and Scott Goulding

November 2017

  • We held our AGM in the main lounge at Spotland this month
  • We braved the November weather and we held a sponsored walk to Oldham raising funds for the Rochdale Foodbank
  • Supporters and Trust members voted for Harrison McGahey to be named as the Dale Player of the Month, with the award being presented by Mavis Shellard.

December 2017

  • We held a Xmas Party for supporters in the Dale Bar before and after our home game with Walsall. Keith Hill brought his players down for an hour or so after the game to mix with supporters.
  • Harrison McGahey was named as the Supporters’ Player of the Year for the second month on the trot.

January 2018

  • We met with the board of directors in January. The biggest issue by a long way was the state of the pitch which had suffered massive deterioration over the course of the season. The board detailed their plans to replace the pitch.
  • Tickets for the Trust’s Curry Night went on sale and sold out within ten days
  • The vote for Player of the Month went to Andy Cannon and received his award from Richard Noble

February 2018

  • Andy Cannon was voted as Player of the Month for the second month in succession. He received his award from Murray Knight.

March 2018

  • We held our Curry Night at the Pavillion II. The sell out event saw guest speakers Mark Stuart and Steve Whitehall with a special guest appearance from Dave Thompson. The event raised over £1,300. From that, a sizeable donation was made to Clic Sargent – a cancer charity for children and young people in memory of Emily Bannister
  • Despite picking up an injury midway through the month, Andy Cannon was voted as the Trust’s Player of the Month for an unprecedented third month on the trot. He was given his award by Trust member Colin Bateson

April 2018

  • We welcomed 39 Exiles and a Duck for our annual Exiles Day, as our Exiles came from all over the UK and beyond for a thoroughly entertaining game with Portsmouth.
  • Former Dale legend Steve Taylor was our guest for our third Matchball Sponsorship of the season.
  • The Trust appointed an Exiles Coordinator in recognition of the record number of Exiles who had joined the Trust.
  • Bradden Inman was voted as Player of the Month for April and was given his award by Trust member Lance Farrar

May 2018

  • Dale supporters voted Ian Henderson as their Player of the Season. In what was the narrowest poll in our history, he pipped Josh Lillis to the award
  • The season concluded with Trust Chairman Dave Gartside stepping down from his position after many years at the helm. He was replaced by Colin Cavanah.
