Rhys Smith is the lucky mascot for tomorrow’s game.

rhys smith

He is a Season Ticket holder along with his father and apparently owns lots of football kits but favourite being Dale of course even though he possesses a Liverpool and Manchester City kit.
Rhys attends St Bartholomew Primary School, Whitworth in Year 6 and is a regular member of our Sunday morning Club.

BIRTHDAY

Our birthday boy today is Alfie Bowden, who attends Our Lady & St Pauls Primary School, Heywood.

Alfie Bowden

Alfie is celebrating his 11th birthday with us at the Dale in the Community Trust alongside his friends with the Saturday Club.
He plays right back for Roach Dynamos Orange Under 11 and according to his mum, lives breathes for football and is madly looking forward to watching Rochdale play-I’m sure he will have a day to remember at Spotland.

FUTSAL

Futsal squad 2014 15

The new recruits took part in a Futsal Festival at Leeds Arena last Wednesday with fabulous results against really strong opposition including Grimbsy Town, who won the Soccer AM Futsal Cup and were also crowned National Futsal Champions plus Carlisle United, who won the Futsal North West League.

Results were:

“A” Team:
Leeds United 5-0, Sheffield United 2-1, Blackburn Rovers 1-1, Grimsby Town 1-1, Sheffield Wednesday 5-1, Carlisle United 6-0

“B” Team:
Leeds United 1-1, Scunthorpe United 0-0, Accrington Stanley 2-2, Grimsby Town 0-1, Sheffield United 3-0

As it was a Festival, there were no any league tables but as you can see from the results, we only lost one game out of eleven and produced fantastic performances against Carlisle United, Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday.
We start the games programme on Wednesday 24th September with a real headache about the formation of the three teams entered into the League.

We are still looking to recruit new students on the BTEC Extended Diploma in Sports Performance and Excellence Programme, equivalent to three “A” levels over two years with pathways including University, Football Scholarships in Europe and USA, Professional Futsal Contracts in Europe

Our Trust coaches recently delivered a free football coaching day for young children at the
Co-operative Academy of Manchester in Higher Blackley, organised by the Co-operative Group as part of its programme of community projects in conjunction with us.
Children were recruited from feeder primary schools to the Co-operative Academy of Manchester; staff and customers from the Co-op and from Rochdale AFC community programmes in the area.
On the day, the boys and girls practiced football skills in small groups with our coaches and then took part in small-sided games, putting the skills they had learnt to the test.
Each child received a certificate and a goody bag to take away.
This fun event, which attracted children from Middleton, Higher Blackley and Rochdale, was a great success as reported by Aileen Walters, Sponsorship Manager-the Co-operative Group who said “It was great to round off our year-long community programme with Rochdale AFC with the event on Sunday, using the first class facilities at The Co-operative Academy of Manchester in Higher Blackley. The programme which started in September 2013 has provided free football coaching opportunities for over 2,600 local children in North Manchester and Rochdale. Almost 100 children took part in Sunday’s event alone and it was great to see the children’s enthusiasm and how much their parents enjoyed it too.”

Other comments were
John Taylor from Walkden whose son James attended: “I thought the day was brilliant from start to finish. The coaching was great and most importantly James had a wonderful day. If you are running similar, please do not hesitate to let me know. I run a team in Swinton, we have approximately fifty children, if Rochdale AFC wanted to run a joint session with the kids we would welcome such an opportunity.”

Sarah Robinson, who works for the Co-op in Manchester and whose son Seth attended with one of his friends: “Thank you so much for the event on Sunday and for the photographs. Seth and Riley absolutely loved it. It was a great day and I felt really proud to work with the Coop.”

Scott Wilson from Rochdale: “Thank you very much for allowing Dan to attend on Sunday. In short he loved it. The organisation was great and you sure made a lot of kids happy. If you have any other events like this in the future please put us on the circulation list. “

Lee Rankin, Principal Funeral Director for The Co-operative whose grandson, Rhys, attended: “Thank you for organising a great day. My Grandson hasn’t stopped talking about it and had an absolute ball. It’s great the Co-op are getting out there in communities.”

Colin Gaunt, Finance Business Partner for Co-operative Insurance: “These photos of the boys are great – thanks for sending on. They both really enjoyed it and glad the weather was good for them. Please pass on my thanks to everyone involved in organising the sessions and especially the coaches from Rochdale AFC who were great with all the kids.”
