Dave Flitcroft accepted an invitation by the Trust’s Keith Hicks, who administers the Trust’s Former Players Association, to be a guest at hospitality before the kick off on Saturday, 16th August, when Dale hosted Altrincham at the Crown Oil Arena. Sadly, his return was only for the day, but we will endeavour to get him back again.
It was also the day that Ann Morris, the driving force behind “Match Of The Dames” attended the COA as a guest of the club and the HGT Rochdale team.
Match Of The Dames is all about getting women who have never been to a game, but would like to, to attend and feel safe and supported, which is also HGT Rochdale’s driving mantra.
“Flicker” is a very friendly and easygoing individual who generously shared insights not only about his time playing here but also about the beginning of Rochdale’s most successful period, known as “the Hillcroft era,” which was characterised by his partnership with Keith Hill.
Along with entertaining our wonderful guests, he had the exciting job of conducting the half-time draw, where one lucky fan walked away with £500!
One fan even made a special request that was a first for him, adding a fun twist to the day!
Jean Risby who is the grandmother of HGT Ambassador Leanne Connoly who attended as a guest of “Match Of The Dames” and had never been to a match herselfe took her “Dames” scarf to Flicker to get it signed, something Dave said was a first for him quoting ” I have never signed a scarf before, many other things maybe but I think this is a first for me!”
First or not, it certainly made Jean happy!
A big thank you to Flicker for being such a great sport! We also hope Jean had an absolutely wonderful day. She might not even know it, but she’s got the autograph of the incredibly sought-after Dale Legend! How cool is that?
